Hotel Peter & Paul - A NoLa Property Worth Praising

Updated: Nov 17, 2023

New Orleans is a unique blend of European city streets and Caribbean Island personality, with a rich history dating back to the 1860s. Hotel Peter & Paul, nestled in the vibrant Marigny neighborhood at 2317 Burgundy Street, embodies this charm, seamlessly combining old-world elegance with modern comfort. This 4-star hotel, originally a Catholic church and school from the 19th century, retains its historic architecture, providing guests with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich history of New Orleans while enjoying luxurious amenities and warm Southern hospitality.

Before Arrival

Pre-arrival emails set the stage for the experience to come, by giving us a peak into their preparations of “fluffing the pillows and dimming the lights”. They pointed us to their very thoughtfully curated neighborhood guide. And recommend we snag a reservation for a drink at the Elysian bar. Our expectations were set with this single line… “We trust that you're open to all New Orleans has to offer and will find solace and respite within our old walls.”

Check-In Experience

Upon arrival, the hotel's fresh, clean scent and abundant natural light greet you, setting a welcoming tone. The reception staff exude Southern charm, offering a detailed property explanation and a personalized map of the neighborhood, complete with local recommendations. Plus, the addition of Palo Santo adds a delightful touch of positive energy.

Accommodation

We opted for the "Two Queens" room, perfect for colleagues and friends. The spacious and stylish room featured a beautiful shower and was adorned with their signature Gingham print. The room comfortably accommodated 2-4 people, with ample seating, a work desk, and large windows that flooded the space with natural light. The beds struck the perfect balance between comfort and support, ensuring a restful night's sleep. We also appreciated the bamboo standing shelf in the bathroom, providing a convenient place for toiletries.

Room Variety

The hotel offers a variety of room types, each embracing the architecture of its original structure. From Kings to Compacts, Grandes to Bunks, there's something for every traveler's preference. We're considering the Grande for our next visit—a loft hotel room sounds exciting!

Amenities and Dining

Hotel Peter & Paul boasts a top floor lounge in the former school house, perfect for sipping coffee from their mini cafe or getting some work done. The Elysian bar, set in the garden and atrium, offers both breakfast and lunch, and reservations are a must for dinner. Their carefully curated food and beverage offerings and exceptional hospitality make it a favorite among travelers and locals alike.

Interested in some shopping during your stay? Be sure to visit their on-site retail store, Sunday Best. It's a delightful boutique offering a carefully curated selection of artisan jewelry, vintage clothing, eyewear, perfumes, home goods, and handbags. You'll also find some of the most sought-after Hotel Peter & Paul keepsakes right here at Sunday Best – be sure to grab one of their Gingham Print robes before you go. We certainly couldn't resist!

Exceptional Service

The service and staff at Hotel Peter & Paul are unparalleled. Despite the hotel's former church roots, their true devotion lies in making guests comfortable. From the seamless delivery of our bags to warm greetings from staff at every corner, this establishment embodies Southern hospitality.

Ideal Location

The hotel's prime location allows for easy exploration of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter, all while avoiding the noise and nightlife hubbub. The Marigny neighborhood, a local favorite, where you stumble upon live music on porches and hidden gems around every corner. We never needed a car, with everything we desired within walking distance, including N7's secret garden, natural wines, and French music, a recommended restaurant by Hotel Peter & Paul.

For anyone planning a trip to New Orleans, Hotel Peter & Paul is our top recommendation. It offers exceptional value without sacrificing its unique charm, a refreshing departure from chain hotels. By the end of our stay, we felt like part of the family, and we're eagerly looking forward to our next visit to reunite with our newfound friends, explore more of their delectable menu, and experience a different room variation. Thank you to this remarkable Southern establishment for providing us with a home away from home in the heart of New Orleans!
