Exploring the Charm of Sound View Greenport: The Ultimate Weekend Getaway

This past weekend, my husband and I headed out to explore Long Island’s North Fork with a beautiful stay at The Sound View hotel located in Greenport, directly on the Long Island sound. Regardless of the temperatures, this setting is just as beautiful as you can imagine and the sounds of the waves are the perfect soundtrack to the weekend.

Inviting lobby of Sound View Greenport hotel, adorned with coastal-inspired decor and comfortable seating, welcoming guests with warmth and charm

When you first arrive at the property, you see the sound peaking out alongside the beachy vibe of the white buildings housing the hotel and its restaurants. Drop your car with the valet, and head inside the lobby to immediately be met with nothing but blue water views ahead of you. The entire lobby area, featuring a shop filled with hotel and local goodies, and the hotel’s lounge and restaurant area are designed in a classic white wood, with nautical and gold accents, keeping this feeling of being on a ship.

Also housed in this main building are the Sound View’s F&B options, available to hotel guests or visitors: The Halyard and The Piano Bar. Both the Halyard and the Piano Bar are open during the winter season on Thursdays through Sundays. The Halyard offers a delicious and decadent brunch (peek those lobster tail eggs benedict) as well as a seafood forward dinner menu. Little side note—the hotel provides a continental breakfast included in your room rate if looking for something lighter! While if you are in the mood for a drink, the Piano Bar is creating amazing craft cocktails in an old world setting full of dark woods, moody red fabrics and a gorgeous piano! And, if you’re lucky, you can catch live music to enjoy with your cocktails.

While we certainly indulged in the food and cocktails; we couldn’t get enough of the amazing room! The Sound View offers several room categories—ALL featuring sound views (hint to the name)—so you can’t go wrong with any choice and get to fall asleep to the sound of waves each night.

We had the pleasure of staying in one of their One Bedroom Luxury Suites. These spacious rooms are housed in the third building and feature a kitchenette (making it a great option for an extended stay), living/dining room, and private bedroom; with one of the comfiest beds I’ve experienced in a while. As these rooms are on the first floor they have large sliding doors that lead directly to your private backyard and private direct beach access! This was definitely the highlight of the room; we immediately opened a bottle of Mecari red and took in the sun, sand, and waves from the private outdoor space and spent most of our time there during our stay.

We didn’t spend all of our time in the room as Greenport has a ton to offer. Head out to the beach and stroll along the Long Island Sound on the Sound View’s private beach; a perfect pre or post dinner stroll. Or just a 5 minute drive away, you find yourself in the charming town of Greenport. Here you will find boutiques, antique shops, and delicious dining options (like the Frisky Oyster, Alpina, and Crazy Beans). And, of course, the top attraction (next to the Sound View of course), the Greenport Wine Trail! Be sure to head out on an organized wine tour, but if feeling more adventurous and spontaneous, it is super easy to do your own tour—just be sure to check the wineries websites for tasting hours and appointments as most require advanced reservations. We highly recommend Macari (partners with the Sound View), Kontokosta, Pindar, and Sparkling Pointe but, with the amount of wineries along the way you really can’t go wrong.
